Protect Your Business from Ransomware!

Protect Your Business from Ransomware!

When operating a small business, you will have a lot of uphill challenges. The days are long, the challenges are a plenty, and the accomplishments will make you feel on top of the world. Within those long lists of challenges is the concern of ransomware. Ransomware is a $1 billion crisis that targets businesses who have not properly protected their secure data. The perpetrators will use this information against you in order to gouge money.  New numbers state that U.S. companies are losing more than $8,500 an hour to ransomware! Fortunately, there are ways to avoid becoming an easy target.

Who Protects Your Data?

While you are saving your files routinely onto a hard drive, who is protecting it? Have you installed anti-virus software, or have somebody to maintain what goes in and out? Regular upkeep of your work files is the best way to keep your hard drives clean. If an employee can’t explain what a file is then why should it be there?

Spyware Cleaners

We’ve known about spyware for years, but with ransomware growing these tracking tools have become even more dangerous. Spyware cleaners will cost your office only a couple hundreds of dollars a year and could save you thousands!

Check Web History

Do you have a worker who likes to visit strange websites? Their computer is linked to a work drive, and one wrong piece of ransomware could wiggle its way in! While I wouldn’t recommend being a webpage stickler, I would recommend making sure the sites that people do visit are notable. If they need to watch a dog video watch it on YouTube as opposed to some strange international site.

Education

Web policies that deal with cyber security should be common sense, but formally incorporating them into the workplace may help greatly! Everybody in your office should be pretty knowledgeable on what types of sites/files attract suspicious activity. Over communicate and be clear on how their misconduct could affect the company negatively!
